MLK and his compatriots of the civil rights movement understood this dynamic strategy of war very well. In the documentary Eyes on the Prize, they are seen discussing the intention of dramatizing the problems they are working to solve for a broader public audience. This worked very well, considering the effect of the Birmingham hoses and dog attacks as well as the Selma to Montgomery march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge. The images from these protest demonstrations were viewed across America on television, and helped convey the violent resistance of the overwhelming white power structure, or hegemony.
